Health Promotion
Health promotion represents the comprehensive social and political processes aimed at improving the health of individuals and community groups. It not only embraces actions directed at strengthening the skills and capabilities of individuals but also action directed towards changing social, environmental and economic conditions so as to alleviate their impact on public and individual health.
The structure of CQU’s health promotion program provides graduates with a broad knowledge and a variety of skills to competently develop and implement health promotion programs for individuals and community groups. The use of online learning environments supports the delivery of the program externally thus providing opportunities for students unable to enroll in internal studies due to location or other limitations. In the final year two courses incorporates opportunities to obtain industry experience, an important commodity to employers.
Health promotion roles are available in government organizations and community-based organizations (e.g. National Heart Foundation). The role of health promoters involves planning and coordinating health promotion programs for specific groups, informing and involving other health professionals in health promotion issues, designing and developing public media information campaigns, carrying out research on health issues, evaluating health promotion programs, acting as consultants and advisors to government and private health & welfare organizations, and discussing and making recommendations on issues that affect the health and wellbeing of the community.

Human Movement Science
CQU's Bachelor of Human Movement Science (BHMSc) program is the first and only degree of it's type in Australia offered by distance or internally. Students completing the first year of the BHMSc can apply directly to enter the BHMSc (Industry Co-op) Program. This innovative and unique program includes two paid work placements combined with external study aimed at maximising student employment outcomes within the sport, health, fitness or recreation industries.
The BHMSc program is consistently ranked in the top 10% nationally on Good Teaching, Generic Skills, and Overall Graduate Satisfaction surveys of graduates. The teaching staff is known for its friendliness, commitment to student learning, and real world focus.
Graduates have dynamic careers including working as Development Officers in sporting organisations, Administrators with sporting or recreation organisations, Recreation officers in resorts, Project Officers with government agencies, Fitness Centre Managers, personal trainers, workplace health and safety officers, rehabilitation coordinators, strength and conditioning specialists, event managers, sports journalists, and exercise physiologists.
Many others have also completed their program and directly entered into further study in physiotherapy, medicine, chiropractic services and nutrition.
Student's interested in Health and PE teaching can complete the BHMSc program and then enter the one year Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching (Primary or Secondary).

Nursing
The Bachelor of Nursing is underpinned by a belief that central to nursing practice are four key factors: Nursing, Person, Health and Environment and has been designed to produce graduates able to function within a variety of health care settings. As the student moves throughout the program, they build on their foundational knowledge and skills utilising critical thinking, therapeutic relationships, reflective practice and life-long learning.
The Bachelor of Nursing program is offered over 3 years full-time, or 4.5 to 6 years part-time. Students are required to follow a set pattern of study in order to achieve the program outcomes. As the student progresses through the Bachelor of Nursing program, they are expected to demonstrate outcomes of increasing complexity. By the completion of year one the student should be able to demonstrate foundation nursing skills and knowledge. By the completion of year two the student should be able to demonstrate an increasing complexity of skill and knowledge and be able to apply knowledge from core nursing courses and support courses to various nursing situations. By the completion of year three the student should be able to demonstrate the skills of a professional nurse practitioner at a beginning level.

Occupational Health & Safety
CQU's Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety (BOHS) is consistently ranked in the top 10% nationally on Good Teaching, Generic Skills, and Overall Graduate Satisfaction surveys of graduates. The teaching staff has vast industry and research experience and is known for its friendliness, commitment to student learning, and real world focus.
BOHS graduates develop expertise in the identification and anticipation of occupational health and safety hazards in the workplace and a systematic approach for their assessment and control across the major discipline areas of occupational health and hygiene, human factors and safety science/risk management.
Graduates have developed dynamic and highly-paid careers in primary industry, rural safety, manufacturing, mining, services industry, employer associations, the defence force, health industry and government authorities, with many now in senior management roles, private consultancies and working overseas.
BOHS students can qualify for the Workplace Health and Safety Officer Certificate awarded by the Department of Industrial Relations and the Workplace Rehabilitation Coordinator Certificate accredited by Workcover. Industry experts are regularly consulted to ensure graduates possess the knowledge, attributes and skills that are deemed to be most important by future employers.

Social Work
Social Work offers a strong, well-established and integrated program in Social Work that is professionally accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers. The program is delivered through a combination of flexible approaches to teaching and learning which include supported online learning environments, problem-based teaching, two compulsory on-campus residential schools per year and supervised fieldwork placements.
The program's flexibility appeals to students for whom a traditional, onsite program is less preferred or possible. The philosophies of problem-based and experiential learning, which promote life-long and self-managed learning, underpin the program as well as values associated with social justice, empowerment, appreciation of diversity and strong ethical practice. Students can elect to undertake some specialized study in domains of health and ageing, child protection or generic social work practice.
The Bachelor of Social Work program equips graduates to work effectively in many settings by providing them with strong analytical skills, sound knowledge of society, policy and social issues, and a range of advanced and creative skills relevant to working with individuals, families, communities and human service agencies. Demand for social workers within Australian human services continues to grow and CQUniversity graduates are very well regarded within the human services sector.

Human Services
The CQUniversity Bachelor of Arts (Human Services) program provides a flexible learning program for students interested in adding foundational knowledge and skills in human services work to their study portfolio. This program is accredited by the Australian Institute of Welfare and Community Workers (AIWCW) which means that graduates are eligible to register as welfare workers with the Institute and to pursue careers as accredited professional welfare workers.
Human Services courses can be undertaken as a complete plan, in conjunction with almost any other plan of study, including psychology, sociology, humanities and business, or as electives. Courses include studies in law and the criminal justice system, individual counselling, family and group work, community practice and assessment of risk to wellbeing. In addition, students undertake two professionally supervised fieldwork placements in government and non government agencies which allow for the development of relevant professional and practical skills. Human Services courses can be undertaken internally (with sufficient internal enrolment numbers) or through distance education.
Graduates work professionally in government and non government agencies as crisis workers, youth workers, child-protection workers, community educators, researchers and administrators. Demand for professional welfare workers remains high and CQUniversity graduates are very well regarded within the human services sector.
